
High Cs Choir Director 2016 - Louise Grinstead ~ Louise received her Masters of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Toronto in 1974, completed post graduate work in education at Simon Fraser University in 1982 and earned Kodaly certificate from the University of Calgary in 1986. She worked for many years as a music specialist with the Halifax Regional School Board where she conducted and accompanied several school and honour choirs. She is presently conductor of the Chebucto Community Singers, a wonderful mixed adult choir of around 70 voices and also accompanies the Jubilate Singers in their annual Christmas performance at St. Mark’s Church in Halifax. She loves to play chamber music and performs frequently with the Wyndrock Quintet. She is president of the Kodàly Society of Nova Scotia and sits on the board of the Kodàly Society of Canada

2016 Clinician - Terry Hurrell ~ Terry is currently conductor with the Jubilate Singers in Halifax. He received his music teacher training at Westminster College, University of London and Dalhousie University. He has taught choral music in England, and in NS. He sings with the Nova Scotia Symphony Chorus, St. Matthew’s United Church Choir in Halifax and was founding director of Nova Voce Men’s Choir, founding member of the Halifax Camerata Singers, conductor of the Lockeport Male Choir, Liverpool Boys Choir and the Halifax Boys Honour Choir. Terry has often been a clinician at choral workshops, a music staff member and vocal coach at NSCF Youth and Adult Choir camps.
Workshop 1 ~ Using some of the concert repertoire, Paula will work on vocal warm-ups and voice production to help us achieve the best tone possible as well as addressing the “aging voice” as needed along the way. Yes! And mid-way through the workshop is the perfect time to limber up with some stretching.
Workshop 2 ~ Terry will cover topics such as male vocal ranges - tenor, baritone and bass registers; blend within a section and within a choir, tone control, uniform vowels, breath control, male voices and use of falsetto.
